HOLY WEEK AND EASTER AT DCC

Palm Sunday – April 9 The 9 a.m. worship service will include music by the Chancel Choir and the Kids Choir, as well as a parade around the sanctuary in remembrance of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.

Maundy Thursday – April 13 Beginning at 6 p.m., the evening will take place in the Great Room. Following a soup supper, we’ll celebrate Communion and also experience ceremonial hand washing as a symbol of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet. If you’d like, please bring soup or bread for the buffet; please sign up in the Great Room or email to admin@deerchurch.org.

Good Friday – April 14 In the sanctuary at 7:30 p.m., we will have a short worship service focused on Tenebrae (scripture reading while candles are extinguished), singing by the Chamber Choir, and sacred dance. Afterward is the traditional walk with the cross to Meetinghouse Hill. Everyone is invited to take a turn at carrying the cross. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight.

Summer Camp

The New Hampshire Conference of the United Church of Christ is blessed to own Horton Center, a beautiful camp located in Gorham, N.H., at the top of Pine Mountain. A variety of programs are offered for all ages, from children to adults. See the display in the Great Room and/or check out the camp website (www.hortoncenter.org). Cindy Bradley, who is DCC’s camp coordinator, is available to answer questions. NOTE: Our church can assist with costs due to the Horton Center Camping Scholarship Fund that was created in 2011 with a generous donation made by Elsie Brown, mother of Nancy Brown McKinney. Please contact Pastor Carol for more information.

Mission Offering

One Great Hour of Sharing is a special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that carries God’s message of love and hope to people in crisis. The UCC works with international partners to provide sources of clean water, food, education, health care, small business micro-credit, and emergency relief. Look for the donation envelopes and baskets in the foyer and Great Room. The collection runs throughout March.

Women’s Fellowship

All women in the church are invited an evening of Stone Soup, which is the next Women’s Fellowship event, taking place on Saturday, March 18, at 5 p.m. at the church: Bring something you’d like to eat in a soup that we’ll prepare together: a potato, celery, onion, meat, etc. There won’t be a signup – whatever we end up with will go into the chicken stock provided for a base. In addition to cooking, eating, and visiting, Marion Smith will tell us about the “Dress a Girl Around the World” project, in which all are invited to participate on May 20. Questions? Contact Jennifer Hurley (340-5168 or jennandjillian@yahoo.com).
