On May 22 we’ll be celebrating the children and youth of our church during worship, as well as recognizing adult leaders of church school, youth group, and adult small groups. Outdoors after worship, games and group activities will take place till a little before 11 a.m., and then all will feast on grilled hotdogs and hamburgers. To help with the meal and/or bring food, please sign up in the Great Room. By the way, the last official day of church school, youth group, and small groups is May 15.
Palm Sunday – Mar 20 9 a.m. worship service with the waving of palms; music by the Chancel Choir, Jubilee, and church school children; and a parade remembering Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.
Maundy Thursday – Mar 24 The evening will begin in the Great Room, with a soup supper at 6 p.m., followed by an Agapé (Communion) meal at 7 p.m. Then we will gather in the sanctuary for the service of Tenebrae, afterwards we will leave in silence. Please see signup sheet in the Great Room.
Good Friday – Mar 25 In the sanctuary at 7:30 p.m., we will extinguish candles as each part of the Passion story is read during Tenebrae, the service of darkness. Our worship will include the Chancel Choir and strings. Afterward is the traditional walk with the cross to Meetinghouse Hill. Everyone is invited to take a turn at carrying the cross. This year we will periodically stop during our walk and listen to scripture depicting Christ’s walk with the cross.
Holy Saturday – Sanctuary open from 5 till 9 p.m. for silent prayer/medication.
Easter – Mar 27 6:30 a.m. Sunrise service at Meetinghouse Hill (across from the cemetery), followed by coffee and a potluck buffet in the Great Room (you are invited to bring food for the buffet!).
9:00 a.m. Easter worship service in the sanctuary with trumpets, singing by the Chancel Choir, sacred dance by children, and lots of fragrant lilies followed by coffee hour.
DCC’s 2016 Lenten series is focusing on the Spirit through Jack Levison’s book 40 Days with the Holy Spirit: Fresh Air for Every Day, with a study guide by Pastor Carol.
February 14 is the first day Sunday small groups will gather from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. to share about the Holy Spirit. Also, a weekday group meets Thursdays from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. If you would like to participate in a group but haven’t yet signed up, please contact Judy Bush (463-7683 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
In the Great Room after worship, a few remaining books and study guides are available. To get a book and guide, simply fill out the pink form provided, designating whether you’d like to be part of a small group or do individual study. The books are provided at no charge due to the Lilly Foundation grant. Note: Day One of the book coincided with February 10.
Sunday small groups focusing on the Holy Spirit during Lent are: Scripture Seekers (sanctuary), Families of Faith (upstairs from sanctuary foyer), Aging with Grace (parlor), and a newly formed group (youth room upstairs in Parish Hall).

On Saturday, February 20, the United Church of Christ’s NH Conference will present this year’s Prepared to Serve (PTS) event at Pembroke Academy. Designed for all UCC members and clergy, PTS includes workshops, worship, and fellowship. In past years, many DCC folks have enjoyed and benefited from attending this event. This year’s theme is “Embrace the Spirit: Growing our Gifts for the Great Good.” Workshop descriptions and online registration are at www.NHCUCC.org. The cost is $40 if you register by February 16, preferably online or by calling Cindy Bradley at 225-6647. Register early to make sure you get into your preferred workshops!
Three meetings will take place this month to discuss the new Sunday morning schedule for worship, church school, and small groups. The four Sundays of Advent begun on November 29. The worship theme is “Expecting.” Christmas Eve services will take place at 5 and 7 p.m. The earlier service features the Chancel Choir and singing and dancing by our church’s children. The later service is a good choice if you p\refer a quite, meditative style of worship.
Holiday Craft Fair and Wreath Sale
To Take Place at Community Church
The annual Holiday Fair sponsored by Deerfield Community Church will be held Saturday, November 21, from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. in DCC’s parish hall at 15 Church Street. The fair is a great opportunity to check out a variety of arts, crafts, and food items; shop for gifts; support local non-profit organizations; and enjoy lunch or a cup of coffee with friends.
Also available: evergreen wreaths for sale at a reasonable price, with the proceeds going toward a charitable cause. If you would like a wreath but are not able to make it on the 21st, call Cindy Tomilson at 463-5535.

Over a year in the making, the new women’s fellowship is beginning! Please join us on Saturday, October 31 at 9 am for our first getting to know you session! We will have some healthy breakfast items provided for you! No cooking necessary! The plan is to have a fun discussion about our group, our faith and how the spirit moves us! During the initial talks last year some things that were of interest to you all were sharing hobbies, taking field trips to interesting places, having discussions about current events and faith, and having guest speakers. We will firm up a schedule and discuss where we’d like the group to go at our initial meeting. If you have any questions, or if you have input but cannot attend, please get in touch with me! On Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. Deerfield Community Church will join with other churches in Londerry (near the Mack Apple Orchard) to raise money to help families struggling with hunger both locally and around the world. 25% of the funds raised goes in equal shares to the participating churches. Deerfield’s share will benefit the Deerfield Food Pantry.
In previous years Deerfield has been well represented with walkers in all age groups. This is such a worthwhile project as well as a pleasant afternoon. This is a leisurely walk, not a race. All are welcome to join. If you don’t wish to do the walk, please consider financially supporting enthusiastic participants.
